So, we’ve decided to switch things up a bit.

Call Me Joe: A G.I. Joe Retaliation Review

gijoe2

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been a huge G.I. Joe fan. I loved the toys and the cartoon and the animated movie. My favorite incarnation, however, has to be the 2009 animated serial G.I. Joe Resolute. It was adult, serious, and had probably the best interpretation of Cobra Commander I have ever seen. That same year, a live action movie came out, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. I was super excited to see all of my favorite characters on screen, especially Cobra Commander.

Lords of Salem: Guest Review by StiffMag’s Dave Harlequin

It’s no big secret; I am a huge fan of Rob Zombie. From his days as the charismatic front man for 90s horror-metal act White Zombie to his more recent endeavors as a horror-filmmaker, I totally support the Astro-Creep! So when Zombie’s latest effort: “THE LORDS OF SALEM” made its long-awaited debut, there weren’t very many lengths I wouldn’t go to in order to see this film… including traveling to Canada to see it first at the Toronto International Film Fest (which I totally, absolutely did rather than just finding a way to torrent it off the internet, I swear!).

Claim Yourself-A Beautiful Creatures Review

Imagine living in a small town, where nothing ever changes and outsiders are judged (wow, sounds like my hometown). Now imagine someone new moves to town, and that person changes your entire life. This ain’t your everyday paranormal romance, kids. This is Gatlin County, South Carolina. This is Beautiful Creatures.

Don’t Eat the Fucking Candy: A Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters Review

hansel_and_gretel_witch_hunters-1600x900

I fear I might be one of those lost souls who actually enjoyed Terry Gilliam’s 2005 The Brothers Grimm film. That is the first film that I actually remember that kickstarted doing darker twists and turns on classic fairytales. And, really, fairytales should live in the dark, no matter how much we love Disney.

I’m the Chosen One. And I choose to be shopping–The Beginnings of the VampireVerse

Joss Whedon is brilliant. There’s no denying that. And when we think “vampire”, we tend to think about the ones he created for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But most people tend to skip over the movie from 1992 completely. And I personally feel like that’s just tragic. Continue reading

I’m lost. No, really, I’ve never been to this part of the airport before – Warm Bodies Review

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. An undead boy falls tragically in love with a human girl, no one understands what they see in each other, blah blah blah. I’m not talking about a Twilight reboot (thank all that is holy and good). I’m talking about the best zombie flick I’ve seen in a long time: Warm Bodies.url

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 Review

dkr2Even though this film is not yet available on DVD, Warner Brothers released the film for digital download on Amazon.com, and being the crazy fanboy I am, I had to get it. Boy am I glad I did. I don’t think I could have waited another few weeks for the Blu-Ray release. This, along with Part One, has to be the seminal Batman film, live action or animated and that’s saying a lot. Video Game Movies and You

I believe it is safe to say that video game films… well… they suck. They suck hardcore. We want them to be great but it just never seems to completely make the transition. It’s not their fault. They never asked for this. A lot of them get really close to being that great film but something surrounding the film just seems to bring the level of quality down to zero. Very few, if any, get any of the source material right. Who do we have to blame? Do we blame the director? Do we blame the cast? The writers? Do we blame our complex needs when it comes to good films? Who do we point our unforgiving fingers at? I went back and watched a good amount of these dreaded films to see how I felt about them now. Let’s take a look into a couple of the more notable video game films to have graced any screen, American or foreign, and what makes them good or bad. Continue reading

Graphically Awesome: Superman Earth One: Vol. 2

This is Graphically Awesome, a series of reviews where we look at new and old graphic novels and tell you just how awesome (or not) they are.

This time I will be looking at the stand alone graphic novel: Superman Earth One Volume 2.  The “Earth One” graphic novels are a series of books that allow different authors that work for DC to do thereSUPERMAN-EARTH-ONE-VOLUME-2-cover own take on a certain character with out the limitation of any other continuity. It can almost be treated as there version of Marvel’s “Ultimate” line of comics. The “Earth One” books are only sold in graphic novel format and should not be treated as an ongoing series. The plan is to release one every one or two years. So far there are three books in this line: Superman Earth One: Vol. 1 and 2 and Batman Earth One: Vol. 1. Continue reading
